Egypt
3100- 1200 B.C.E.
The ancient Egyptians lived in Africa, near the Nile river. They were unified under a ruler called a pharaoh. Pharaohs were believed to be related to the gods. For this reason, elaborate tombs were build for them called pyramids. Pyramids contained everything Egyptians believed they would need in the afterlife. The pyramids they build are still standing today! Their thoughts on death and the afterlife were preserved in the Book of the Dead.
